  • Sayaka Matcha by Ippodo Tea (40 gram can or 100 gram bag)

Sayaka Matcha from Ippodo Tea is a well-rounded and much loved matcha that is accessible for all matcha lovers and the matcha curious.  It is smooth but relatively light and has very little astringency making it quite easy to enjoy. The umami is on the lighter side and the tea shows very little bitterness.  It is suitable for both thin (usucha) and thick (koicha) tea and is popular as a matcha latte.

Sayaka, also known as Sayaka-no-mukashi, is the same product as Ippodo's Horai matcha.  The only difference is the name and size of the package.

Ippodo Tea is a highly regarded Japanese tea company that began in 1717.  They are well-respected for their nuanced flavor profiles, their expertise in tea cultivation and processing, their consistency, and the freshness and vibrancy of their teas.  All of their teas are from the Uji region of Kyoto Prefecture.

Choose between a 40 gram can or a 100 gram bag.  A typical serving of matcha (thin tea / usucha) is 2 grams, while a typical serving for matcha latte is about 4 grams.
