The Pink #4 Raw Puerh Cake from Xiaguan Tea Factory is a well-regarded moderately aged cake. It's really nice and easy to drink, well suited for people looking for some age on their puerh but who are not looking for a powerhouse tea.
The dry leaves give off a sweet, leathery aroma with just a hint of smoke in the leaves. There is no classic Xiaguan smoke in the liquor as the tea is well-matured into a fruit-forward, viscous profile with no bitterness. It's an exceptionally sweet, somewhat plummy, raw puerh with camphor and wood coming in later steeps. Strength builds pretty quickly but the astringency never seems to get out of balance.
Taiwan stored until late 2024. The wrappers are in decent shape, but of course they are nearly 20 years old so there are a few dings and tea stains in some of them. Each cake is approximately 400 grams.
