This top grade Asahi matcha from Tsuji Kiyoharu offers an incredibly sophisticated profile: velvety and delicate in texture, with distinct notes of vanilla, egg custard, and subtle chocolate. Its exceptional smoothness and natural sweetness create an almost magical drinking experience - rich and full-bodied yet remarkably easy to appreciate. The careful production process includes 40 days of canopy shading, traditional honzu techniques, and meticulous hand-picking from unpruned gardens that are harvested just once annually. This approach, combined with organic fertilizers and minimal pesticide use, yields some of the highest recorded levels of amino acids and theanine.
As the flagship offering from Tsuji Kiyoharu's gardens in Shirakawa, Uji, this tea showcases the prestigious Asahi cultivar - a variety that continues to win national competitions for its remarkable qualities. Tsuji-san, recipient of the 2017 Prime Minister's Award for Agriculture, combines traditional expertise with innovative garden management to produce some of Japan's most distinguished matcha teas.
Harvested in early May 2024 and ground in late October after proper resting, each 20-gram portion provides approximately ten usucha servings when prepared in the traditional 2-gram measure.
